Receptionist jobs in Dubai involve welcoming visitors, answering enquiries, managing appointments or reservations and keeping accurate records, and the requirements vary: some employers want previous reception experience, and hotel positions often require a named property system and particular languages. To prepare, match your resume to the advert and practise explaining how you handle visitors, competing requests and difficult conversations. This guide uses the UAE Government portal and employer careers pages we checked on 26 October 2026. It cannot promise a job, a wage, a visa or an interview.
Understand the Type of Reception Role
A corporate receptionist manages visitors, meeting rooms, telephone calls and deliveries. Hotel reception adds reservations, payments, guest requests and check-in procedures. Clinic reception involves appointment scheduling and sensitive patient information. Read the responsibilities before deciding whether a position fits, and ask whether it includes sales targets, cash handling, administrative support or rotating shifts. Similar titles describe different workloads, so compare the tasks rather than the title.
Read the Requirements in a Real Advert
Do not assume every receptionist vacancy requires a degree or accepts beginners. Separate mandatory qualifications from preferences, and check whether the employer wants experience in a particular industry or country.
Accor's advert for a Guest Relations Officer / Receptionist on the Queen Elizabeth 2 in Dubai, open when we checked on 26 October 2026, is a full-time, permanent role that asks for work experience as a hotel front desk agent, receptionist or similar in the UAE, "Proficiency in Opera and Microsoft", fluency in English with other languages a plus, and excellent communication and organisational skills. The duties include checking guests in and out on the Opera system, creating and cancelling reservations, room allocation, safe deposit boxes and key control, and occupancy and arrival reports. No salary is listed. This is one employer's standard, not a Dubai-wide rule; if you lack UAE hotel experience, search for adverts that accept your level. Careers site: Accor careers.
Language Requirements Differ by Vacancy
Practise introducing yourself, confirming an appointment, taking a telephone message and explaining a delay in clear English, and repeat important details such as names, dates and numbers. Some Dubai adverts are written specifically for Arabic speakers: the brief for this guide cited a Marriott Dubai EDITION advert for an Arabic-speaking receptionist, but it had already closed when we checked on 26 October 2026, which is a reminder that single adverts disappear within weeks. Arabic is not mandatory for every receptionist job in Dubai. List your actual language abilities honestly and expect the interviewer to test them. To search current hotel front desk roles, use the employer's own site, for example Marriott careers.
Prepare for Computer and Administration Tasks
Practise email writing, calendar invitations, document formatting and simple spreadsheet updates. Build a fictional appointment list and check it for duplicate bookings, missing details and inconsistent times, and never use real customer information in practice material. For hotel applications, read which property management system the employer uses. If you have not used it, describe your existing software experience and how you learn new processes, and do not call yourself proficient after one demonstration.
What the UAE Government Says About Fees, Wages and Shifts
The UAE Government portal u.ae is the official source for private-sector employment rules. Four points matter for a receptionist:
- Article 6 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 bars employers from charging workers recruitment and employment costs, directly or indirectly. A fee to secure an interview or a visa is a warning sign, not a normal cost.
- The Labour Law sets no minimum salary, so any figure circulating online is an estimate. Your written offer is the only number that counts.
- Wages are paid through the Wage Protection System under Ministerial Resolution No. 340 of 2026: due on the first day of each Gregorian month, with at least 85 per cent transferred on time. A cash envelope from a supervisor is not the Wage Protection System.
- Night work between 10pm and 4am normally earns the basic wage plus 50 per cent, but u.ae states the rule does not apply to workers employed on a shift basis, which covers most hotel front desks. If you want a night allowance, have it written into the contract.
u.ae also says free zone employees are generally not governed by the UAE Labour Law and are sponsored by the free zone authority rather than the employer, so ask which rules apply to the company you are joining. Official page: u.ae: Jobs; complaints go to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
Write a Focused Receptionist Resume
Put your contact details, location, availability and relevant skills where recruiters find them quickly. Describe genuine responsibilities from employment, volunteering or education, especially customer communication, scheduling, record keeping and teamwork. A useful bullet states an action and its result, but claim only improvements you can support. Freshers can include event support or visitor registration. Tailor the wording to the vacancy without copying requirements you do not meet, keep the format simple and proofread names and dates.
Answer "Tell Me About Yourself" Clearly
Prepare a short introduction that connects your background to reception work: relevant experience, two practical strengths and your reason for applying to that employer. A beginner might say: "I supported visitor registration at college events and maintained attendance records. I enjoy helping people, checking details and keeping tasks organised, and this position combines customer communication with administrative work." Adapt it to your own history and practise aloud until it sounds natural rather than memorised.
Practise Handling an Unhappy Visitor
For a complaint question, explain that you would listen, clarify the issue, acknowledge the inconvenience and check the available solution, staying within your authority and involving the right colleague when needed. If a visitor's appointment is missing, describe checking the booking details and contacting the responsible team before promising an outcome. Do not blame another employee or invent a solution. When you use a real example, give the situation, your action and the result.
Explain How You Prioritise Competing Requests
An interviewer may ask what happens when a visitor arrives as the telephone rings. Explain how you acknowledge the visitor, answer courteously, ask permission to place the caller on hold when appropriate and follow workplace procedure. For urgent situations, say how you would alert the responsible person rather than decide outside your training. Mention accurate message taking and confidentiality, and prepare one example of organising several tasks without losing a detail.
Ask About Salary, Schedule and Benefits
Ask for the salary breakdown, working hours, weekly schedule, probation terms and the exact workplace. Confirm whether accommodation, transport, meals or other benefits are included rather than assuming hotel employment provides them. Compare the complete offer with your expected living and commuting costs, state your real shift availability and joining date, and ask which employment documents and work authorisation arrangements apply to you. Get written terms before you make relocation decisions.
Apply Through Verifiable Recruitment Channels
Find the employer's official careers page and compare the vacancy with any message you receive. Treat requests for payment to guarantee an interview or appointment as a warning sign, and verify unfamiliar recruiters independently. Track applications, save job descriptions and prepare using the employer's stated services and responsibilities. Follow the application instructions, check attachments before submitting and keep your telephone number and email current.
A Note for Applicants in Pakistan
Never pay an agent, a "processing fee" or a deposit for a Dubai reception job or a visa, and check the employer on its own website first. Read how to spot a fake overseas job offer before you send money or documents, and use only promoters licensed by the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can freshers apply for receptionist jobs in Dubai?
Yes, where the advert accepts beginners. The Accor advert we checked required UAE hotel experience, so select suitable roles and show transferable skills honestly.
Is Arabic compulsory?
Not universally. Some vacancies are written for Arabic speakers; others emphasise English or other languages. Follow the individual advert.
Do all roles include accommodation?
No benefit should be assumed. Ask what the package includes and have the agreed arrangements recorded in writing.
What is the minimum salary for a receptionist in Dubai?
There is none. u.ae says the Labour Law sets no minimum salary, so compare written offers and the cost of living rather than online estimates.
Do I get extra pay for night shifts?
Not automatically. The basic wage plus 50 per cent for work between 10pm and 4am does not apply to workers employed on a shift basis, so negotiate a written allowance.
Can an employer charge me for the visa or recruitment?
No. Article 6 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 bars employers from charging workers recruitment and employment costs, directly or indirectly.
Which software should I learn for hotel reception?
Read each advert. The Accor advert named Opera and Microsoft; other properties use other systems. Describe honestly what you have used and how you learn new ones.
What should I wear to the interview?
Clean, professional clothing suited to the workplace, and follow any instructions the employer gives.
