Web Developer — US Startups, Agencies and In-House Teams

US Software Teams, Agencies & Startups (Aggregated) United States, Nationwide Full-time

Job Description

Startups, agencies, e-commerce brands, SaaS companies and in-house engineering teams across the United States hire web developers to build and maintain websites and web applications. Because the work lives in a repository, this is one of the most genuinely remote-friendly roles in the market, though most employers still expect overlap with US business hours.

What the work involves

Building and maintaining front-end interfaces, integrating APIs, working inside an existing codebase far more often than starting a new one, reviewing other people's code and having yours reviewed, and shipping through a deployment pipeline you are expected to understand. Junior roles concentrate on bug fixes and smaller features under supervision; the architecture work comes later.

Requirements

  • Solid HTML, CSS and JavaScript fundamentals — the framework changes, these do not
  • At least one modern framework in production use: React, Vue or Angular
  • Git, and a working understanding of branching, review and deployment
  • Responsive design and cross-browser behaviour
  • Backend basics — APIs, databases, authentication — even for front-end roles, since full-stack familiarity is increasingly assumed
  • A bachelor's degree is the typical stated requirement, but employers in this field range from accepting a high school diploma upward where the portfolio is strong

How the pay is structured

  • Salaried roles sit against a national median of $92,650 as of May 2025, with the lowest tenth under $48,100 and the highest tenth above $162,290
  • Total compensation at larger employers adds bonus and equity on top of base, which is where offers diverge most
  • Contract and freelance work is quoted hourly or per project, and that rate absorbs self-employment tax, tooling and unpaid time between contracts

Before you apply

Ask whether remote pay is indexed to your location. Some US employers pay a flat rate wherever you live; others adjust to local market. It is a normal question and it changes the offer substantially.

Note: salaries, remote policies, stack requirements and any sponsorship decision are set by each employer — not by JobGader. Confirm the details on the employer's own advertisement before applying.
