Maintenance Technician — Facilities, Industrial and Property Roles, US Employers

US Facilities, Plants & Property Managers (Aggregated) United States, Nationwide Full-time

Job Description

Factories, warehouses, apartment communities, hospitals, schools and commercial buildings across the US hire maintenance technicians to keep their mechanical, electrical, HVAC and plumbing systems running and to fix things fast when they break.

What the work involves

Preventive maintenance on machinery, HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems; diagnosing and repairing faults; responding to emergency breakdowns; reading blueprints and schematics; keeping logs and parts inventory; and general upkeep such as basic carpentry and painting.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent for most entry-level roles, with vocational or technical training a strong plus
  • EPA Section 608 certification if you service refrigerant systems (required by law; four types; lifetime credential)
  • An OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour completion card is often preferred (a voluntary card, not a certification or a license)
  • Strong troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude, and often a valid driver's license for multi-site roles

How the pay works

  • BLS OEWS May 2025 (SOC 49-9071). Median $49,590 a year ($23.84/hr); 10th percentile $35,350; 75th $62,620; 90th $77,180
  • Specialising pays more. Industrial machinery mechanics median $64,520; HVACR mechanics $61,010

Before you apply

Check the setting and the certifications required — industrial and specialised roles pay well above general facilities work — and whether the role carries on-call or shift duties.

Note: pay, benefits and requirements are set by each employer — not by JobGader. Confirm the details with the employer before applying.
