Job Description

Car dealerships, tire and service chains, fleet operators and independent garages across Canada recruit automotive service technicians under NOC 72410.

What the work involves

  • Inspecting, diagnosing and repairing engines, drivetrains, brakes and electrical systems
  • Using computerised diagnostic equipment
  • Explaining repairs and estimates to service advisers and customers

Requirements

  • An apprenticeship of about four years, or equivalent experience plus trade courses
  • Trade certification, which is compulsory in Ontario (310S) and in several other provinces
  • The Red Seal endorsement for work across provinces

Pay: Job Bank reports a national median of C$29.89 an hour. Individual employers set their own rates.
