Medical Billing Assistant Jobs in Pakistan

Medical Billing Assistant Jobs in Pakistan

Medical billing is one of the few routes into a United States healthcare career that you can start from a desk in Lahore with no clinical qualification at all. Pakistani revenue cycle management companies bill American doctors, and they hire and train freshers to do it.

It is also a job that is regularly described in a way that does not survive a check. This guide uses what employers and regulators actually publish, and it says plainly where the published numbers sit against Pakistani law.

What a medical billing assistant actually does

A medical billing assistant sits on the money side of healthcare, not the clinical side. You never treat anyone. You make sure the provider gets paid for treatment that already happened.

The work follows the revenue cycle. A patient's insurance is verified before or at the visit. The visit is coded. A claim goes to the payer. The payer pays it, reduces it, or denies it. Somebody posts the payment, works the denial, appeals it if it is wrong, and chases what is still outstanding. An assistant usually starts on one or two of those steps and picks up the rest.

Elevate Revenue Group, which runs its operations centre in Gulberg III, Lahore, describes its entry-level Medical Billing Assistant role as covering eligibility verification, billing and data entry, claim submission, working US insurance portals, and compliance, with training provided. That is a fair description of the job across the sector.

The job titles to search for

Employers are inconsistent with titles. The same work appears as:

  • Medical Billing Assistant
  • Medical Billing Executive or Specialist
  • Medical Biller
  • RCM Associate or RCM Executive
  • Accounts Receivable (AR) Executive
  • Claims Processor
  • Payment Posting Executive
  • Denial Management Associate
  • Patient Billing Support

Search several of these. A vacancy you would be perfectly able to do is often filed under a title you never typed.

Pay: the number nobody checks against the law

This is where most medical billing guides mislead people, so it is worth being exact.

Elevate Revenue Group publishes a figure on its own careers page: a practical current Pakistan benchmark for a fresher is PKR 30,000 to PKR 40,000 per month. The company immediately adds that this is a market benchmark rather than a guaranteed offer, and that the actual salary is confirmed during hiring. That honesty is unusual and worth crediting.

Now put it beside the law. Punjab's Labour and Human Resource Department currently notifies a minimum wage of PKR 40,000 a month for an unskilled adult worker. Labour is a devolved subject, so the provincial notification is the binding one for a Lahore office.

Read those two together. The published fresher band for medical billing runs from PKR 30,000 up to PKR 40,000, and the statutory minimum for an unskilled worker is PKR 40,000. The top of the entry band is the legal floor. The bottom of it is below.

That does not mean any particular employer is underpaying, because the minimum wage applies to covered employment and the benchmark is a market observation rather than an offer. It does mean three things you should carry into an interview:

  • Do not accept a verbal number. Get the salary, the shift, the probation length and the review date in writing.
  • Treat anything under PKR 40,000 in Punjab as a question to ask, not a fact to accept.
  • The real return on this job in year one is the training and the US healthcare exposure, not the salary. Judge the offer on what you will be taught.

You will see much larger figures quoted for medical billing in Pakistan. Those are usually single adverts for experienced accounts receivable or coding staff with one to three years behind them, and they are not what a fresher is offered.

Night shift medical billing team working US hours in Pakistan

The night shift is the real condition of the job

Pakistani billing companies serve American providers, so they work American hours. Elevate Revenue Group's advertised shift is 6:00 PM to 3:00 AM PKT, Monday to Friday, onsite in Gulberg III.

Take that seriously before you take the job. A 3:00 AM finish in Lahore means arranging a safe commute home in the middle of the night, sleeping during the day, and accepting that your working week runs opposite to everyone you know. Ask specifically about transport, because whether the company provides pick and drop changes the arithmetic of the salary more than a few thousand rupees does.

Shifts vary between employers. Some run 5:00 PM to 2:00 AM, some split coverage across US time zones. Confirm the exact timing and the weekly days off in writing.

Can freshers actually get hired?

Yes, and this is genuinely one of the more open doors in Pakistani white-collar hiring.

Elevate Revenue Group states on its careers page that the Medical Billing Assistant role is entry-level, that candidates without prior medical billing experience may apply, and that it provides structured on-the-job training. It asks applicants to mark themselves as a fresher in the experience field and says it reviews profiles within 48 hours.

What employers in this sector are really screening for at entry level is English, accuracy and reliability on a night rota. A claim rejected because a policy number was mistyped costs the client real money, so attention to detail is not a CV cliche here, it is the job.

Qualifications and requirements

There is no licensing requirement to do medical billing in Pakistan and no mandatory qualification. What employers typically ask for at entry level:

  • Intermediate or a bachelor's degree, with the subject mattering less than you expect
  • Clear written and spoken English, because you will read payer correspondence and write notes an American client may see
  • Comfortable typing and data entry, and basic Excel
  • Willingness to work the night shift onsite
  • Attention to detail under a daily target

Experienced roles add knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, EHR or EMR systems, payer portals, denial reason codes and accounts receivable ageing. ICD-10-CM itself is maintained by the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics, and the code set is published freely, so you can start reading it before anyone hires you.

What certification really costs

Career guides routinely tell Pakistani freshers to get certified without pricing it. Here is the price.

AAPC, the American body behind the CPC and CPB credentials, charges USD 425 for one attempt at a core certification exam, or USD 499 for two attempts. The CPB exam is 135 multiple-choice questions. Study guides and preparation courses cost more on top.

Convert that against a PKR 30,000 to PKR 40,000 salary and a single exam attempt is several months of gross pay before you have bought a book. This is why the sensible order is: get hired first, do the job for a year, then ask whether your employer will sponsor or part-fund a certification. Elevate Revenue Group says it supports team members pursuing AAPC and AHIMA certifications, and several Pakistani firms in this sector do the same. Ask about it at interview rather than paying for it yourself upfront.

Remote and work-from-home billing roles

Remote medical billing jobs in Pakistan exist, but the entry-level ones mostly do not. The pattern across the sector is that companies keep new staff onsite while they are being trained and supervised, partly for quality and partly because client contracts impose data security conditions that are hard to meet on a home laptop.

Elevate Revenue Group's own listing is explicit that its Medical Billing Assistant role is onsite at Gulberg III and is not advertised as remote or work-from-home.

Treat any advertisement offering a fully remote medical billing job to a complete fresher, at a salary well above the market, with suspicion. That combination is the standard shape of a recruitment scam.

Applying safely

Apply through the employer's own website wherever you can. Elevate Revenue Group takes applications at its own application page and asks for a CV in PDF or Word.

Some rules that will save you trouble:

  • No legitimate employer charges you a fee to apply, to be trained, or to be registered. If money is requested, stop.
  • Do not send your CNIC scan, bank details or educational certificates before you have a written offer from a company you have verified.
  • Check that the careers page sits on the company's real domain. A hiring message from a free email address pointing at a lookalike domain is the usual setup.
  • Never claim billing experience you do not have. The interview will include practical questions and the gap shows immediately.

Where the career goes

Medical billing has an unusually clear ladder for an entry-level office job, because each step is a defined function in the revenue cycle.

A typical progression runs from Billing Assistant to Payment Posting or Charge Entry, then into Accounts Receivable follow-up, then Denial Management, then Quality Analyst or Credentialing, and on to Team Lead and RCM Specialist or Manager. Medical coding is a parallel track rather than a promotion, and it is the one where certification genuinely changes your pay.

Employers that work to CPC and CPB (AAPC) and CCS (AHIMA) standards across many specialties give you more to learn than a single-specialty shop. That is worth asking about.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a medical billing assistant do?

You verify patient insurance, prepare and submit claims to United States payers, post payments, work denied and unpaid claims, and keep billing records accurate. It is administrative and financial work inside healthcare, with no clinical duties.

What salary should a fresher expect in Pakistan?

Elevate Revenue Group publishes a market benchmark of PKR 30,000 to PKR 40,000 a month for a fresher and is careful to say it is not a guaranteed offer. Punjab's notified minimum wage for an unskilled adult worker is PKR 40,000 a month, so the top of that band equals the legal floor. Get any figure in writing before you accept.

Can I get a medical billing job with no experience?

Yes. Several Pakistani revenue cycle employers advertise entry-level assistant roles for freshers with structured training. Elevate Revenue Group's Medical Billing Assistant role is explicitly entry-level and invites applicants with no prior billing experience.

Do I need a medical degree or a certification?

No. There is no licence to practise medical billing in Pakistan and no mandatory qualification. AAPC and AHIMA certifications help experienced staff, but an AAPC core exam costs USD 425 for one attempt, which is months of an entry salary. Get hired first and ask about employer support later.

Is the night shift compulsory?

Almost always, because the clients are American. A common pattern is 6:00 PM to 3:00 AM PKT, Monday to Friday. Confirm the exact hours, the days off and whether transport is provided before accepting.

Are there remote medical billing jobs for freshers?

Very few. Most employers keep new staff onsite during training because of supervision and client data security requirements. A fully remote, high-paying offer made to a complete beginner is the classic shape of a scam.

Which cities have the most medical billing work?

Lahore has the largest concentration, with further clusters in Karachi, Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Within Lahore, Gulberg and Johar Town hold a large share of the offices.

How long before I can move up?

One to two years of accurate work usually opens accounts receivable or denial management, which is the first real pay step. Team lead and specialist roles generally follow three years or more, and coding is a separate track where certification pays for itself.
