Search Google's own careers site for "data center technician", filter to the United States, and apply through Google's sign-in flow. On 24 September 2026 that search returned 328 matching US jobs, and a parallel search for "data center facilities technician" returned 252 more. You do not need an aggregator for any of it, and you should not use one: Google prints the pay, the physical standard and the eligibility rule on the posting itself, and a reposted copy strips all three.
Two facts decide whether the rest of this guide is any use to you. Google publishes a real salary band on every US posting. And every one of those postings also says the role is not eligible for US immigration sponsorship.
Read This First: Sponsorship
We opened the full description of all 40 US data center technician postings on the first two pages of Google's own search. Every single one carried this sentence, word for word:
"This role is not eligible for U.S. immigration sponsorship."
That is not a quirk of a few listings. For this job family it is the rule. If you are outside the United States without work authorisation, these roles are closed to you no matter how strong your hardware experience is, and any agent promising a Google data center visa is selling something Google does not offer on these postings.
If you already hold a green card, citizenship or another status that does not require employer sponsorship now or in the future, none of this affects you and the rest of the guide is written for you.
The Pay Google Publishes Itself
US pay transparency laws mean Google prints a band on the posting. These came off live Google postings on 24 September 2026, not from any salary estimate site:
| Role as Google titles it | Published US band |
|---|---|
| Data Center Technician I | $73,500 – $100,000 |
| Data Center Technician and most Technician II roles | $86,000 – $118,000 |
| Data Center Technician III | $105,000 – $145,000 |
| Facilities Technician, Electrical (2 years of experience) | $86,000 – $118,000 |
| Facilities Technician, Controls (5 years of experience) | $105,000 – $145,000 |
Every one of those bands is followed on the posting by the same line: "+ 15% bonus target + equity + benefits". Google also states that "Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training", and the band itself moves with location and scope — one Technician II posting in Amarillo, Texas prints the $105,000 to $145,000 band rather than the usual $86,000 to $118,000.
Numbers you may have seen elsewhere, such as $86,000 to $119,000 or $105,000 to $146,000, are a thousand dollars out at the top of each band. Read the band off the posting you are applying to and trust that over every other source, including this one.
The $17.35 an Hour Problem
No Google data center posting publishes an hourly rate at all. They publish annual bands, and the lowest of them is $73,500. So the widely repeated claim that Google entry shifts "start around $17.35 an hour, paid weekly" cannot be describing a Google job: $17.35 an hour at 40 hours is about $36,000 a year, less than half Google's own published floor.
Hourly rates and weekly pay are how staffing agencies pay contract technicians, including technicians placed inside hyperscale data centers. That work is real and can be a genuine way in, but you would be employed by the agency, not by Google, on the agency's pay and benefits. Before you accept anything, read the name on the contract and ask who the legal employer is.
Two Different Jobs Behind One Search
"Google data center jobs" covers two separate job families with different doors, and applying to the wrong one is the most common wasted application.
Data Center Technician: the server side
You deploy and operate new data center infrastructure, troubleshoot equipment issues, repair and perform preventative maintenance on servers and machines, disassemble end-of-life hardware, and track media so that data is erased to Google's security standards. Google's minimum qualifications for Technician I are short and, notably, contain no degree requirement at all:
- "Experience with performing component-level repairs and troubleshooting on technical equipment."
- The lifting and physical standard, quoted in full further down.
- "Must have the ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, night shifts, holidays and on shift-based schedules as required."
- "Must be available to travel to support business priorities as operationally required."
The degree appears only under preferred qualifications, as "Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience". Two other preferred items are worth reading closely, because they are things you can go and get: "Completion of the online Google IT Support Professional Certificate program", and one year of experience diagnosing operating systems, computer and server hardware or networking protocols, in a role such as systems administration, network deployment or help desk work.
Data Center Facilities Technician: the trades side
This is the electrical, mechanical, controls, generator and fire and life safety work that keeps the building running. Here Google does set an education line in the minimum qualifications: "Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience", plus trade experience — two years for the electrical postings, five years in controls or automation in an industrial or commercial environment for the controls postings.
If you are a licensed electrician, HVAC technician or building controls specialist, this is your route and it starts at the same $86,000 band. If you are a server or networking person, apply to the technician track instead; the facilities minimums will screen you out.
The Physical Standard, in Google's Words
The commonly quoted "lift up to 50 lbs" is only half of what Google actually asks. The technician postings say:
"Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) of equipment and ability to exert yourself physically over extended periods of time, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling and lifting."
Facilities postings word it differently: "Ability to participate in material handling tasks such as lifting, carrying or moving up to 50 lbs of equipment", together with the required use of OSHA standard safety equipment. Add the shift line — weekends, nights, holidays and rotating schedules — and the honest summary is that this is physical, on-site, around-the-clock work, paid accordingly.
Where Google Is Actually Hiring
The live technician postings sit in small industrial towns, not tech cities. Current posting locations include Council Bluffs and Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Pryor, Stillwater and Muskogee, Oklahoma; Moncks Corner, Ridgeville and Saint George, South Carolina; Amarillo, Haskell, Wichita Falls and Red Oak, Texas; Reno, Sparks, Henderson and Las Vegas, Nevada; Leesburg and Sterling, Virginia; Fort Wayne and Monrovia, Indiana; Lithia Springs and LaGrange, Georgia; Lenoir, North Carolina; Lancaster and Lima, Ohio; Mesa, Arizona; Bridgeport, Alabama; and West Memphis, Arkansas.
Two corrections to the location list that circulates in other guides. Google lists no Reston, Virginia data center — its Virginia campuses are in Loudoun, Prince William and Chesterfield Counties, which is why the postings say Leesburg and Sterling. And "Council Bluffs / West Memphis AR" runs two states together: Council Bluffs is in Iowa, West Memphis is in Arkansas.
Why it keeps growing is on Google's own blog. Google has announced $40 billion in Texas through 2027, including new campuses in Armstrong and Haskell Counties, $9 billion in Virginia, and $1.5 billion to expand the Jackson County, Alabama campus across 2026 and 2027. The Texas postings in Amarillo and Haskell are that money turning into vacancies.
The Training Routes Google Funds
If you do not yet have the experience, Google funds several pipelines into this work and names them on its data center site:
- The Skilled Trades and Readiness (STAR) programme, preparing people for entry-level construction and skilled trades careers, running in South Carolina, Nebraska and Northern Virginia with Northern Virginia Community College.
- A partnership with the electrical training ALLIANCE, which Google says will prepare more than 1,700 apprentices in Texas by 2030.
- A $50 million commitment that Google says will train over 300,000 Americans for electrical, construction, plumbing and sheet metal roles.
- The Google IT Support Professional Certificate, which appears by name in the preferred qualifications on the technician postings.
How to Apply, Step by Step
- Search Google Careers directly for "data center technician", then repeat it for "data center facilities technician". They return different jobs.
- Filter by location to the campus you can realistically commute to or move to. These roles are fully on site.
- Read the eligibility line before anything else. If it says the role is not eligible for U.S. immigration sponsorship and you would need sponsorship, stop there.
- Check the band and the level. Technician I, II and III are different jobs with different pay; apply at the level your evidence supports.
- Mirror Google's own words in your resume. If the minimum says component-level repairs, name the components you have replaced and the systems you have diagnosed.
- Apply through Google's sign-in flow on the posting. Never pay anyone to submit it; Google charges nothing to apply.
Frequently Asked Questions
