Accounting Jobs

Accounting is one of the few fields where the qualification does most of the talking. Employers filter on certification and software first, experience second — which is good news if you have the letters after your name, and worth planning around if you do not.

What Accounting Roles Actually Pay

In the US, staff accountants are commonly advertised in the region of $55,000 to $75,000, with senior accountants and financial analysts moving into the $75,000 to $100,000 band and controllers well above that. Public accounting tends to start lower than industry but moves faster.

In the UK, assistant accountant and bookkeeper roles are typically posted around £25,000 to £35,000, with qualified accountants commonly £40,000 to £60,000 depending on sector and city. In Pakistan, accounts officer roles commonly run PKR 50,000 to 120,000 a month, rising sharply for ACCA and CA-qualified candidates at multinationals.

The Certifications Employers Filter On

CPA is the dominant credential in the US, and for many senior and audit roles it is a hard requirement rather than a preference. CMA carries weight in management accounting and corporate finance.

ACCA and CIMA are the equivalents recognised across the UK and much of Asia and the Gulf, and ACCA in particular travels well for candidates in Pakistan looking at overseas roles. If you are part-qualified, say so and state how many papers remain — recruiters treat that very differently from no qualification at all.

Software Is Half the Shortlist

Name the systems you have actually used, not the ones you have heard of. QuickBooks and Xero dominate small-business and bookkeeping roles; SAP, Oracle and NetSuite dominate corporate and enterprise finance. Advanced Excel is assumed rather than impressive, so specify what you do with it — pivot tables and lookups are baseline, Power Query and modelling are not.

Reconciliation, month-end close, accounts payable and receivable, and statutory reporting are the phrases that get CVs through automated screening. Use the ones that genuinely describe your work.

How to Make an Accounting Application Land

Lead with your certification status, then the size and type of the books you have handled — a candidate who has closed month-end for a fifteen-person company and one who has done it for a listed group are doing different jobs with the same title.

Quantify where you can. Volume of invoices processed, size of ledger, number of entities consolidated, and time taken to close are the numbers hiring managers in finance actually read.

Frequently Asked

Accounting Jobs — Common Questions

Do I need a CPA or ACCA to get an accounting job?
Not for every role. Bookkeeping, accounts payable and accounts receivable positions are regularly filled by candidates with experience and strong software skills. Audit, statutory reporting and most senior positions are a different matter, and there the certification is usually a hard filter.
Which accounting software should I learn first?
Match it to the roles you want. QuickBooks or Xero for small business and bookkeeping work, SAP or Oracle if you are targeting large corporates. Learning one properly beats listing five you have only seen demonstrated.
Can accounting roles be sponsored for a work visa?
Qualified accounting roles are among the more realistic sponsorship candidates because they can meet skill and salary thresholds, unlike most entry-level positions. Bookkeeping and clerical finance roles generally cannot. Our visa guides cover how each route works.
Is it free to apply through JobGader?
Yes, and no account is needed. Each listing links to the employer or the original posting, so you apply to them directly and we never take a fee.
What if I am part-qualified?
Say so explicitly and state how many papers you have left. Many employers hire part-qualified candidates into study-support roles, but only if they can tell from your CV where you actually are.
